ALUMINIUM 2022 will start in Düsseldorf on September 27

ALUMINIUM 2022 will start in Düsseldorf on September 27. And after its cancellation in 2020, it will finally be the long-awaited international meeting place for the aluminium industry and its application industries. The central players of the industry will be there as well as the most exciting start-ups and newcomers. The trade fair will also score points with new special shows, cooperation with the most relevant associations and industry partners, with numerous hybrid elements - and with three days full of content.

It's been a dry spell - but it's coming to an end. When the world's leading trade fair ALUMINIUM opens its doors in Düsseldorf in September, much more awaits the industry than the largest and long established information platform: visitors and exhibitors will have the opportunity, missed for far too long, to finally meet each other again, to deepen personal contact, to make new contacts - to "feel" the others again. "Right now, it is important that we bring the aluminium industry together again on a large platform so that they can meet and exchange ideas," says a delighted Malte Seifert, the ALUMINIUM project manager. "In addition, we can address many important issues and create visibility for the industry with policymakers so that appropriate solutions can also be found for the challenges of tomorrow."

The highly welcome return to normality, then - combined with the obligation to also prove the claimed relevance. And trade fair organizer RX will deliver. ALUMINIUM 2022 will represent the entire aluminium industry in six exhibition halls. The big, well-known players will participate as exhibitors, as will the numerous SMEs and start-ups that make an invaluable contribution to the diversity and innovativeness of the industry. In this sense, the trade fair, which is already almost fully booked, will therefore be a genuine, comprehensive showcase of services. The relevance of ALUMINIUM is also reflected in the partnerships that organizer RX has been able to establish. The most important associations, research institutes and analysts are on board, and they will contribute to providing answers to the most pressing questions affecting the aluminium industry. And they will thus help to fulfill one of the essential requirements of the fair: to make ALUMINIUM a place for dialogue, information and discussion. When can a trade fair call itself the "world's leading trade fair"? What makes it the most important meeting place for an industry? If it's a matter of the pure exhibition space that represents a world market within the framework of a trade fair, ALUMINIUM (September 27-29, 2022) more than lives up to the term, because as in previous years, it represents the global aluminium market within six exhibition halls at the Düsseldorf Exhibition Center.  And another criterion will also be met: The most important players in the industry will be there to guarantee professional exchanges of the highest relevance. Among others, Norsk Hydro, HAI Hammerer, AMAG, ALVANCE, Rio Tinto, Alcoa, Trimet or Assan Alüminyum have already confirmed their participation. In addition to many other well-known industry giants, numerous SMEs and start-ups will also ensure enormous diversity.

The most important questions of our time
But of course there is more to it than that. A world-leading trade fair is expected to offer answers to the most pressing questions of the present and the future. The focus of ALUMINIUM 2022 will therefore be on those topics that are already transforming the industry. And for which the material offers numerous approaches to solutions.

  • Sustainability: Few materials offer as many opportunities for recycling and circular economy as aluminium. Industries are under increasing pressure to make their product life cycles more sustainable and to help the circular economy achieve a breakthrough - and aluminium is an ideal material for this. At the trade fair, numerous innovations will be presented in the spirit of climate-neutral aluminium.
  • New mobility: The development of electromobility is rapidly changing the automotive industry. At the same time, there is increasing pressure to make vehicles lighter in order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Both developments speak in favor of aluminium, which is becoming an increasingly important material in the automotive industry. With aluminium, vehicles are more environmentally friendly on the road.
  • Additive and digital manufacturing: 3D printing has left the image of prototyping behind: The topic has long been established in industry - and is far from exhausted. The manufacturing process opens up a wide range of technical possibilities in which the material properties of metal can be combined with the design freedom of additive manufacturing. In Düsseldorf, corporations as well as start-ups will demonstrate exciting ways in which additive manufacturing is opening up completely new opportunities.
  • Digitization: More efficiency, more effectiveness - Digitization is far from exhausted. From the networking of machines and processes to the entire aluminium industry supply chain, countless powerful levers still await the industry. With this in mind, innovative engineering and machine software as well as data management systems on Industry 4.0 will be another focus of the show.
  • Building and Construction: UN estimates predict that more than two-thirds of the world's population will live in cities as early as 2050. Developing these mega-cities in a smart and environmentally friendly way is therefore an essential task for the coming years and decades. And aluminium will also play an important role here: as a sustainable, recyclable material for facades or window frames, for example. Aluminium is part of the future viability of our cities.
  • Special shows with strong partners

Two of these focus topics will be reflected in their own special shows. "Additive and Digital Manufacturing" in Hall 5 will highlight the diverse technical possibilities offered by 3D printing. For trade fair project manager Malte Seifert, this is one of the most exciting developments in the industry: "3D printing makes it possible to combine the material properties of aluminium with the design freedom of additive manufacturing. What new approaches this offers cannot even be fully foreseen today." One partner in this special show is the Aachen Center for Additive Manufacturing (ACAM) at RWTH Aachen University, one of the world's most important research centers in the field of additive manufacturing with aluminium. The trade fair will also be cooperating here with Quartz Business Media, which has long been active in the field of digital manufacturing with aluminium with its "Future Aluminium Forum". Both partners will contribute interesting insights and exciting speakers on this focus topic.

In Hall 6 of ALUMINIUM, everything will revolve around the topics of sustainability and recycling. Against the background of the excellent properties of the material in the sense of a Circular Economy, numerous best practices and innovations await the trade fair visitors in the "Innovation Plaza Sustainability and Recycling".
And an excellent partner has also been acquired for this topic: the leading business intelligence company CRU, well-known in the aluminium industry, with its highly specialized analysts. Trade fair project manager Malte Seifert: "Also as a result of this cooperation, unique insiders and a real added value for the visitors but also the exhibitors of our trade fair can be expected."

Both special shows will be accompanied by Speakers' Corners. They will offer a dense program of expert presentations, focused content and insights on the most important issues related to additive manufacturing and sustainability, respectively. They will provide in-depth information and give space to the presentation of products and solutions. The thematic stages will be hosted by top-class industry partners who will contribute both thematically and professionally. The partnership with the CRU Group and the leading trade associations also offers the opportunity to provide highly relevant answers to issues that arise at short notice. The steeply rising energy prices, for example - currently an essential topic for the industry - will naturally also be the focus of discussions. "Together with our partners, we will ensure that no questions are left unanswered," promises Malte Seifert.

Digital with Quartz Business Media

RX has maintained a very close content relationship with our colleagues at Quartz Business Media for years. This has now developed into a genuine partnership: The British trade media house, which among other things publishes "Aluminium International Today", will also play an important role at the "Innovation Plaza Additive & Digital Manufacturing" at ALUMINIUM. Here, the diverse and, above all, new technical possibilities of 3D printing of aluminium will be on display. "On behalf of the Aluminium International Today team, I am honored and excited to help bring the new Innovation Plaza to life at this year's ALUMINIUM show," said Nadine Bloxsome, Editor & Content Director. "Aluminium International Today is a leading global publication covering the entire value chain, but over the past few years we have worked to create more content highlighting the challenges of implementing Industry 4.0 and digital manufacturing solutions. This new Innovation Plaza, with its focus on additive and digital manufacturing, is therefore the perfect place to showcase this industry knowledge, engage in various discussions and explore technology case studies that help streamline aluminium manufacturing processes. We look forward to meeting everyone and showcasing this exciting new element at ALUMINIUM."

Content drives the show
The focus on content is one of the outstanding features of the world's leading trade show. One of the highlights: Aluminium Deutschland's major ALUMINIUM Conference will be an integral part of the show from 2022. It will take place under the title "Aluminium - the solution provider" in Hall 3 of Messe Düsseldorf and will move thematically along the central focus topics of the fair. The ALUMINIUM Conference will continue the approach of the extremely successful ALUMINIUM Business Summit and will bring experts, key players and, above all, customers of the aluminium industry onto the stage to discuss the focal topics.
Marius Baader, Managing Director of Aluminium Deutschland, sees the merger of the trade fair and the conference as a logical step: "ALUMINIUM will thus be even better positioned in terms of organization and content and will address the cutting-edge topics that are driving our industry today and will continue to do so in the coming years. On this stage we can communicate the solution competence of the material and the industry more strongly and clearly."

A sustainable trade fair - in new halls
Sustainability will not only be one of the focus topics of ALUMINIUM - the event itself is also committed to the claim. In the course of the new trade fair concept, all pavilions and special shows are planned with a new stand construction concept by the trade fair's own company StandOut: The material is selected in such a way that it can be completely dismantled after the trade fair and reused for subsequent RX trade fairs. Thus, only damaged materials or materials processed for individual needs have to be disposed of. ALUMINIUM will also be held in Halls 1 to 7 of Messe Düsseldorf for the first time in 2022. A "move" that is also welcomed by the exhibitors. This will create the opportunity to ensure a new and even better hall layout as well as visitor guidance. With the underground car park at Hall 1 or also the Kurt Schoop Lounge as a VIP lounge, the established and high-quality infrastructure of Messe Düsseldorf can also be better utilized. "All this," says Malte Seifert, "will be to the advantage of both exhibitors and visitors. In addition, the new ALUMINIUM site area offers many more areas for development in the future."

A showcase of superlatives
Like all of organizer RX's trade shows, ALUMINIUM will offer hybrid elements and provide a digital trade show portal. In addition to digital exhibitor profiles, there will also be the option to follow the ALUMINIUM Conference live on the web via stream. In addition, there will be hybrid offerings such as audio guided tours, digital trade show bags, matchmaking, Emperia lead scanning of all visitors, exhibitor dashboards and more.
"In September, we will experience a superlative performance show," promises Malte Seifert, "it will be a trade fair the industry can be proud of - a true world-leading trade fair."
